As we’re all aware, humans can be kind and compassionate. They can also be vicious and conniving.

I’ve been asked on several occasions recently how to deal with glass ceilings and coworkers who try to undermine you.

My advice? Stop allowing other people to control your career.

Hit a glass ceiling? Switch companies. Coworker is a snake in the grass? Focus on killing it at work and showing them up. If it gets to the point that your irritation is affecting your work/quality of life, toss it up to HR. If they don’t resolve the issue move on to a company with better work culture.

The only person who can get in the way of your career success is you, by letting other people control your path. So don’t.

Empower yourself to make life changes, and continue moving onward and upward.
