I totally agree! Sometimes it’s not the right fit or time, and other times you just outgrow the position and because of the way the company is structured there isn’t a place move upward into internally. It’s a great way to identify outstanding leadership too. If a leader encourages an employee to continue on to another position to move forward on their career path, even though it’s external, you know the company has hired a true gem! My previous VP was extremely supportive of my move to InVision. He even told me that if I let my love for the team get in the way of the incredible opportunity he’d be a bit disappointed, since he knew how much I wanted it! Departmental leadership for sure plays a role in people’s experiences in companies.
