Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
You know how sometimes something happens and your faith in humanity is immediately restored? And other times, it goes past being restored into the “I can’t believe these incredible humans exist in real life, and I know them!” category?
In August, my daughter had her first seizure, and stopped breathing. She’s fine now, but it was horrifying to go through. A couple of weeks later, Apple announced their new watch feature, a fall alert. I was immediately ecstatic, and was going to pick one up the weekend they launched.
Her first seizure happened with me in the room. She’s now on medication, but the fear of not being around if she had another one was eating me alive. Every time she blinked more than once I had a near panic attack, I was driving her nuts. This watch feature is huge. It gives me, as a mom, so much peace knowing that if she falls and I’m not around, I’ll get alerted and 911 will be called automatically.
So I wrote an article about how this tech impacts my life and how excited I am about it, and the next day I got a message from my incredible coworker Stephen Gates saying that he had started a GoFundMe to raise money to get the watch for my daughter. He posted it on social media, and 90 minutes later the watch was fully funded by members of our exceptionally kind hearted, supportive design community, and my wonderful…
